Superbowl viewers will see a commercial created by the video team at The Search Engine Guys (A Division of Cloud[8]Sixteen, Inc.) during Superbowl XXXXVI. The commercial is for the Waco car accident attorney Vic Feazell’s mobile app that was created by Big Momma Apps (also a division of Cloud[8]Sixteen, Inc.).

The mobile application is available for both iPhone and Android users through the Apple “App Store” and the Android Market. Smartphone users who have the app downloaded on their phones are instantly connected to an experienced attorney in the event of an accident. Through the mobile app, users can record and store accident information, take photos of the accident, record eyewitness statements, and can immediately send that information to the firm.

Individuals who are interested in downloading the mobile app for either an iPhone or an Android device can do so by visiting the app store and downloading the app for free. Individuals who have been injured in a car accident in Waco or Austin should contact the Law Offices of Vic Feazell, P.C. or visit the website at www.wacocaraccidentlawyer.com.

Last week, Cloud [8] Sixteen, Inc. was excited to be invited to be a part of the M&L Legal Marketing and Management Seminar in Palm Beach, Aruba. The conference was founded in 1992 by J. Marshall Hughes and Lee Coleman, and they have continued to host this event bi-annually since that time. This has allowed Legal marketers to bring their knowledge and expertise to the Law Firms in attendance.

This year, Cloud [8] Sixteen, Inc. CEO Joe Devine was invited to speak at the conference, held from January 11th – 16th. Some notable sponsors for the event included Plaintiff Investment Funding, Innovative Legal Marketing, Lien Resolution Services, LLC., as well as other established marketing firms. We were proud to be a part of this great event, and hope that we can continue to participate in the years to come. Thank you to M & L Legal Marketing and Management for putting on such a great event, and we look forward to the next seminar in summer 2012!

A new internet domain extension (“.xxx”) has been created to provide the adult entertainment industry with a unique domain extension and to help the general public to easily identify and/or avoid adult content sites when searching the internet. This release has caused quite a stir.

Some web companies have taken an alarmist position and are instructing people to take very aggressive measures to defend themselves. And while the possibility does exist that your business name could be purchased by “squatters” and used to host an adult content website on a .xxx domain; our position is that the risk is not any greater now, than it has always been. The addition of .xxx domains simply adds one more extension to the already long list of .com / .net / .biz / .info / .co / .me / .mobi / .tv / etc.

Even if you purchase your existing domain name with the .xxx extension – countless variations exist that utilize dashes or additional word combinations. A few examples of this might include:

www.yourfirmname.com / www.your-firm-name-office.com / www.yourfirmname-office.com

www.your-firmname.com / www.yourfirm-name.com / www.yourfirmnamelawyers.com

www.yourfirmname-lawoffices.com etc.

There are hundreds if not thousands of combinations considering all the URL extensions and variations with hyphens. It would be costly to fully protect against all variations.

That said, we want to inform you of this potential threat and spell out a few facts:

1.) It is possible for someone other than you to register www.yourcompanyname.xxx without your knowledge.

2.) The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has installed a system to allow companies to block their company name if the name has been trademarked from becoming an .xxx domain before it goes on sale to the general public. If you wish to take this protective measure, you can follow these steps:

If your business name has been trademarked you can block the equivalent .xxx domain from being registered during the very first registration called “Sunrise B”. This early registration period is strictly limited to trademarked companies. The deadline for application is October 28,, 2011, and the processing fee is $199.99. The registration process and additional information can be found at http://www.godaddy.com/tlds/xxx-domain.aspx

If you have not yet trademarked your firm or company’s name, you will still be able to apply for a defensive registration once the .xxx domains are opened to the public during the “General Availability” sessions which opens on December 6, 2011, and the fee is currently set to be $99.00.

We encourage you to consult with your own legal counsel on the legal, business, financial, and related aspects of securing a trademark to protect against any possible infringements. If you have any questions or need assistance securing an .xxx or any other domains please contact us at 800-267-1704 to discuss this further. Additional information about the program and registration requirements can be found here: http://www.icmregistry.com.

Respectfully,

Joe Devine

President & CEO

Cloud [8] Sixteen, Inc.

As we previously mentioned back in September, our Parent company Cloud [8] Sixteen, Inc. was included in the Austin Business Journal’s Fast 50 companies as one of the 2011 fastest growing companies under $10 million in Central Texas. We are very excited to announce that Cloud [8] Sixteen, Inc. ranked #5 on this year’s list. The awards honor Austin-area companies based on compounded annual average sales growth over three years. You can read more about the Fast 50, and the other companies that were also honored here: http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/news/2011/10/14/fast-50.html

The awards ceremony was held last Thursday at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center here in Austin. The announcement of our position on the list was revealed at that time. It was a fun night, and we had a great time meeting all the remarkable people working for companies that help contribute to the Austin Business Community. We were very excited as a company that all the hard work over the past four years is paying off, and this is a group of companies we are proud to be associated with. Congratulations to all the other companies who joined us on this list, and here’s to continued prosperity in the Austin business community.

Last Friday, our Cloud 8 Sixteen family took a day to give back to the Austin community. It was a great experience for everyone, and we all had a blast working with all competitors at the Austin Special Olympics event.

The Event was held at Zaragoza Park in Austin. We spent the day officiating a Bocce Ball tournament. It was really great to interact with all the competitors, and see how excited, as well as how competitive many of the kids were. The competitors had all been practicing, and they were excited to get on the Bocce court and show off their skills. The Special Olympics organization is a great organization, and it was really cool to see how many kids were able to come out and enjoy the beautiful Austin day. As a company, we look forward to our next opportunity to help out the Special Olympics at other events in the future.

Over the past 13 years, Google has built itself up from a small search engine striving to give people the best results from around the web into a search giant whose company name is now an official verb according to Webster’s Dictionary. As they have grown, just like with other growing companies, acquisitions have been made along the way. As they have acquired different companies, their search results have evolved and changed. Now, many of the companies that compete in smaller niches are crying foul. Has Google become too large? Are they a monopolistic company who holds the fate of smaller companies in their hands?

Google is currently being looked at by the Federal Trade Commission in Antitrust hearings in Washington. Several company executives, including Eric Schmidt from Google and Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, have testified, giving differing opinions, as both companies have a lot at stake in the hearings. Yelp has been battling Google regarding local reviews for a good part of the last 7 years. They claim that Google is giving emphasis to their own products, particularly their Google Places listings which also contain reviews for local small businesses. Yelp is claiming that this product, which previously contained data from Yelp’s web site but no longer does, gives Google an unfair advantage.

Google relies on a massive algorithm to organize their search results, and they maintain that this algorithm does not bias results toward Google products. They want to provide the best results possible to users, and claim that the minute they stop doing that, users will find someone else that will. It is that sense of urgency that Google utilizes to strive to be the best. The company’s search algorithm is under almost constant change, with upwards of 500 updates made last year. Some of those were small, while others were quite large like their “Panda” update in March. All of these are designed to continually improve search results for users.

The outcome of this trial will be closely followed by all of us in the SEO community; and even closer by those who compete directly with Google services. The outcome could have a major impact on how search results are displayed on the first page of Google if Google is forced to change how or where they display Google-places, Google-products or any of their own business units that compete with natural indexed content. It is too soon to know if Google will be forced to change or if they will change on their own accord. Or if Google’s lobby is strong enough to maintain the status quo.
